The hardest part of raising a child is teaching them to ride bicycles. A shaky child on a bicycle for the first time needs both support and freedom. The realization that this is what the child will always need can hit hard. ~Sloan Wilson

June Brig Race, Closing the Season

Man, it was hot. It was seventy degrees warmer than the last time we ran this course in competition. Talk about extremes. We still had a pretty good turnout, and more importantly no fall-outs from the heat. I was real glad to see my predictions on that matter were wrong.

We would like to thank Tracy and Bruce for their effort on Saturday making sure the course was well marked and groomed. Many times we don’t consider the sacrifice guys like them make to give us the opportunity to ride. As it was, the course was in tiptop shape considering the weather. There were plenty of shifty sand pits as a result of the dry weather, but that is a fact of life riding the coastal trails. We have what nature provided, and guys like Tracy and Bruce improve on that. The result is a great trail. Thanks fellas. (more…)

The secret to mountain biking is pretty simple. The slower you go the more likely it is you'll crash. ~Julie Furtado

Brig Trail Updatin’

Well, the fair weather riders are out! This is good… way I got it figured for every 10 Fair Weather Rider we get, we will convert about 3 to full timers… which is good for the Trail cause it shows usage… and may coerce those in the decision chairs to allow us to retain the trail longer… but anyways:

With the influx of riders we start to see ‘trail modifications’ being done. Weird things to be sure… for instance, a log crossing that has a slight log build-up prior to last week had grown to a huge log build-up. It is hard to get angry at folks who think they are doing good… the effort is appreciated, but novice construction coupled with altering a known line is not a good thing… it causes crashes sometimes… ask the prez- he has a nice little titanium addition to his anatomy which was a result of said enterprise(s)… (link to pics) …. Cycling is unique. No other sport lets you go like that - where there's only the bike left to hold you up. If you ran as hard, you'd fall over. Your legs wouldn't support you. ~Steve Johnson
